This first essay is being built around a question: what happens when we deliberately enter an arena with fewer places to hide?

The working premise

Endurance sport can act as an unforgiving mirror. It exposes impatience, inconsistency, ego, avoidance and the stories we tell ourselves when something becomes difficult. The feedback is not always comforting, but honest feedback is what growth requires.

The finished piece will begin with a real moment from training or racing, move through the uncomfortable patterns the sport has revealed, and end with a wider invitation: everyone needs an honest arena, even if theirs is not endurance sport.

The mirror shows what is currently there. It does not decide what you can become.
EDITORIAL NOTE

This is a preview of the central idea, not the finished article. The full essay will be published here when Peter has completed the personal examples and final reflection.
